Astro Cat won a CAMEO Award!
Here’s a turn-up for the books (quite literally)! You may have read our post a couple of weeks back, where we shared the exciting news of Astro Cat’s Solar System making the shortlist at the CAMEO Awards, as part of London Book and Screen Week. The awards ceremony was held on Monday 9th April at the stunning Electric Cinema in Notting Hill. As I sat anxiously in my (quite unbelievably cosy) seat in the screening room, other entrants from all of the transmedia industry arrived. The awards including Book to Audio, Book to Film, and of course Book to Game!
Translation, Interpretation, Adaptation
These were the real buzzwords running through the event. Speeches from award-winning director Beryl Richards and bestselling author Jojo Moyes considered the chaos, love, and hard work that go into transforming a book into a film, TV show or other media. After plenty of laughs and nods from attendees who knew this process all too well, it was time for the awards to be…awarded!
When host Paul Blezard came to announce the winner for our category, Book to Game, he described the judges vote as ‘unanimous’, and mentioned the attention paid to the young audience as well as the beautiful artwork. Astro Cat’s Solar System appeared on the big screen, and after a quick thank you speech that went by in a blur, I returned to my seat holding our brand new award!
It was a great honour to stand on the stage alongside some incredible teams who worked on such formidable productions as Lion (See Saw Films) and The Miniaturist (BBC). Thank you to all involved, and congratulations to all of the winners and shortlistees.
