Artie's World Farm Friends Map

Agriculture has been arguably the most important step humans took towards civilisation of all time. So learning about farms and farmyard animals is very important for our mini human beings: they can learn where their food comes from, how animals grow and develop just like humans, and of course they can entertain themselves for hours on end with, let’s face it, the best animal noises on the planet. We’ve had plenty of fun ourselves, bringing animals and baby animals to life with cheery animations and friendly voice-over to tell your child what they’ve drawn. So, without further ado, we’re going to give you all the farmyard know-how you’ll need to impress your kids as you enjoy drawing in Artie’s World together, in the form of more handy flash cards…

Cows are very sociable and like to live in large groups.

Cows, like most farm animals, are herbivores. This means they only eat plants, rather than meat.

Donkeys have very long ears on top of their heads, so they can hear sounds coming from far away.

Sheep are one of the first animals that humans began to keep on farms.

Male sheep are known as rams, while female sheep are called ewes.

Ducks are related to swans and geese, but they are the smallest species in the family.

Some say that a duck’s quack does not have an echo – but this is a myth!

The goats you meet on a farm may seem tame and happy on flat ground, but some types of wild goat can live up mountains at huge heights!

Goats are closely related to sheep, but they do not form large flocks in the same way – they prefer to be alone or in small groups.

A boy foal can also be called a colt, while a girl foal is a filly.

Horses can sleep while standing up!

Some people try to keep tiny piglets as pets, only to find they grow into huge pigs!

There are around 2 billion pigs in the world!

Chickens are capable of recognising other chickens, and even humans!

Some chickens can live for 10 years or more.
